The Cake Bride

The Cake Bride

This woman’s quirky cake idea first hit the press back in 2008, but it was just recently picked up again by AOL news. Article recycling aside, I’m glad I got to see it the second time around.

The “cute factor” of having a cake in one’s own likeness I can understand. Somewhere between the fantasy and reality of the situation, though, I would feel more than a little silly. No doubt people would construe this to say something unflattering of your ego. And, possibly worse, this life-size creation could feed a small country. I say this with confidence since I was just quoted on a wedding cake myself.

To her credit, the original plan was to personify both bride and groom in cake form, and the bakery just ran out of time. No wonder; that thing sure looks like work!

Fire in Boulder, CO — Help for Victims?

Though I spent my long holiday weekend in San Francisco, I could vaguely see this fire on my drive home from the airport. I have heard there were 3,500 people evacuated, some of whose homes have since burned to the ground. Just a horrific situation! For more info on the fire, I encourage you to read this article from this morning’s Denver Post.

And while I am in no danger where I am, I wanted to encourage anyone who reads this blog– especially local to the area– to think of ways we might be able to serve and assist the victims. In a town like Boulder, I know many creative, helpful, and generous ideas will be had.

Art Institute Welcomes Lady Gaga

For those of you that pay any attention to my Facebook or Twitter, you might have noticed me post this a few days ago. But I’m still getting a kick out of it, so here it is… the shot found on Perez Hilton’s blog on Thursday:

Art Institute Dinosaur

This dinosaur “guards” my alma mater, the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. It’s been dressed up as many things over the years, but this is pretty good. Lady Gaga is in town for a show this weekend, so I guess if anyone was going to pay homage, it would be a school that can appreciate bizarre artistic expression.

The beauty of this is that the dinosaur is not only dressed up in hooded pleather with high heels and long blonde hair, but it also has a speaker in its mouth so it can sing as if it were the Lady herself. Brilliant. :)
